Q. Tell about some of your latest interesting CG projects ?
|
"SoulFire"
Dubai Sports City
|
A. I've just completed my contributions for a new "SoulFire" trailer. SF is a project by Frank Sennholz and his German CGI studio "SoulPix". Originally planned as a TV series, we had done a first trailer in February 2003. This time Frank and his company are aiming for the silver screen with it, and therefore a new, much better preview was necessary to convince possible investors and raise funds. My part were a few of the environments for the show, and if everything goes well, the trailer will be available for download mid June.
Before of that I have been working on a couple of large architectural visualizations for some of Dubai's impressive multi-billion-dollar tourism projects, such as "Dubai Sports City". I will still continue also doing this kind of work in the future, because I got to know some very cool people through this and also the concept art for some of the jobs is done by no-one else but the great Syd Mead.

Q. What great new work will you be doing in the near future ?
A. I've taken a week off now for doing things that I had really no time for during the past weeks and am also discussing a few projects with some people, so we will see. All that matters to me is the fact, that I shall always have a bit more opportunities for new jobs than I can actually accept. Right now this is a case, and it is a very lucky situation. I hope it will remain this way, then I'm happy. In fact I'm not very ambitious, so there's no voice that constantly tells me "Move to LA and work at Pixar/Blur/PDI/SPI..whatever!". I once even had a couple of offers from various more or less renowned companies there, and from time to time I still get them, but while that sure was great for my self-esteem, I never had the guts to accept such a challenge and actually try it. So I'm rather "settled" nowadays and am happy with what I have. Actually going to LA and work on the big shows would be too much of an experiment for me, and frankly I also don't think I'm good enough for that. I admire people like Allan McKay who manage to do all this, travel around from studio to studio, make a great career (well-deserved) and have an ever-growing list of amazing references. So Allan, if you happen to read this: I love you, man ;-)
But I'm a slacker and prefer sitting here, become chubbish and wait for the things that are being offered and done through the thin cable of my internet connection ;-) And for the rest of my time I enjoy spending with my girl and my friends, which happens seldom enough. So there isn't much that I'd like to see changed, except maybe on the subject of my body weight. :)
