Q. Another delightful aspect about your work it that often you produce
different versions of the same theme or image... Alot of 3D artists create a
scene and then never touch it again. What pushes you to experiment like this ?
A. Traditional painters do that a lot, like Monet in his famous series of
paintings of the Cathedral of Rouen. Working in series is a staple of
traditional art. In CG, it's even easier since you can experiment over
and over at a minimal overhead cost. In fact I rejected this notion at
first because it seemed too gimmicky, but after a while I found myself
with different versions of the same image and just couldn't decide
which one was the best, so why not show them all. I pushed this
concept as far as I could with the
, where I started
with different color schemes and ended up doing completely different
images based on identical elements. I'll probably do other series. The
website is called "experiments in graphics" and I really need to do
that more, to experiment.
