Title: Variations Series(2004) The variation series was a welcome diversion and a lot of fun to do. Follow the link for Conceptual and technical notes on Variations ...

Q. Another delightful aspect about your work it that often you produce different versions of the same theme or image... Alot of 3D artists create a scene and then never touch it again. What pushes you to experiment like this ?

A. Traditional painters do that a lot, like Monet in his famous series of paintings of the Cathedral of Rouen. Working in series is a staple of traditional art. In CG, it's even easier since you can experiment over and over at a minimal overhead cost. In fact I rejected this notion at first because it seemed too gimmicky, but after a while I found myself with different versions of the same image and just couldn't decide which one was the best, so why not show them all. I pushed this concept as far as I could with the "variations" series , where I started with different color schemes and ended up doing completely different images based on identical elements. I'll probably do other series. The website is called "experiments in graphics" and I really need to do that more, to experiment.
